Spanish Mass

Time:
1:00 p.m.
*Last Sunday of every month

The origins of celebrating Spanish language mass began with a small group of parishioners in 2007. They met with Father Peter Galek and talked about the growing Latino population in the area and how St. Domitilla could welcome new and existing parishioners with a Spanish language service. A committee was formed by Juan Espinoza, Rosa Malagon, Christina Barrera, Mercedes Jacobo, Carol Bavone, and Lou Rodriguez.

The group organized the first Spanish language mass on Easter Sunday of 2006. Since then, a Spanish mass has been celebrated at St. Domitilla’s every last Sunday of every month. In addition, the ministry and its volunteers organize several events for the St. Domitilla parish community throughout the year, including dinners for the parish community after mass, food fundraisers for the school, as well as a Spanish language outreach to the surrounding neighborhoods.

In response to their efforts, St. Domitilla received a rare digital print of the Our Lady of Guadalupe painting, the centerpiece of Our Lady of Guadalupe Basilica in Mexico. The family of Lou Rodriguez donated the image from Mexico, woodworking Artisans customized a frame and Mike Zuba of ARC Glazing finished the piece with a custom glass. It was dedicated to the church on December 12, 2008.

Our present goal is to have a weekly Spanish mass as part of the regular schedule. Everyone is welcome to attend!
