Ministries & Organizations

The St. Domitilla parish welcomes everyone to participate in a variety of ministries and organizations that promote the spiritual values of the church. In fellowship with other parishioners, these groups seek to not only celebrate the role of service within the church, but to help others in many different facets. From young adults to seniors, there’s a group for anyone who wants to help others in the definition of Catholic service.

Adult Choir

The Adult Choir is always open to new members.  You do not need a music background to participate.  Regular rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.  The choir performs at one mass each weekend from September (after Labor Day) through May.  Interested adult participants can contact  our Music Minister by calling the rectory at 708-449-8430 or by emailign StDchoir@hotmail.com

Bereavement Ministry

The Bereavement Ministry provides comfort and support to parishioners experiencing the death of a loved one.  A Bereavement Minister will visit with you at the Funeral Chapel before the funeral and help you to prepare parts of the Funeral Liturgy if you wish to participate in the mass.  A minister will also assist the mass celebrant at the funeral mass.  Contact Tom Carroll at 708-449-8430 ext. 10

Council of Catholic Women

The purpose of the St. Domitilla Council of Catholic Women is to bring together women in the parish who are willing to carry out the work of Jesus by enhancing the spiritual, material and social interest of the parish.  All women of the parish are invited to join our CCW the first Thursday of each month, September through May at 6:30 p.m. in the South Hall of the school.  There is no January meeting.  www.stdomitillaccw.org 

 Eucharistic Ministers

Men and women who have been confirmed in the Catholic faith are invited to be Eucharistic Ministers.  The Eucharistic Ministers help with the distribution of the Eucharist at mass. If you are interested in participating in this ministry, contact Winnie Minick at the rectory office at 708-449-8430 ext 10.

Finance Comittee

The parish finance comittee works with the Finance Manager in assisting the pastor in the management of parish resources as well as preparing the annual budget and parish report to the archdiocese and the parish community. 

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus, founded by Fr. Michael McGivney, is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization.  Founded in the United States in 1882. it is named in honor of Christopher Columbus.  There are more than 1.8 million members in 14,000 councils, with nearly 200 councils on college campuses.  Here at St. Domitilal the Assumption Council No. 3671 meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 8:00 pm to foster Catholic spirituality and programs to promotre Catholic faith.  The Knights sponsor a number of charitable fundraisers to help mentally challenged children and adults.  They meet at the Broadview Hillsdie Legion post located at 4941 Butterfield Rd., Hillside, IL.  For general information contact Brother Knight Marty Hughes at 708-732-3515.  website www.KofC.org

Lectors

The lectors proclaim the Word of God at Mass.  This important ministry assures that the word of God can make its way more easily into the lives of all who gather to be nourished by that word at the Eucharist.  For more information contact Helen Kwasniewski or George Osborn at 708-449-8430 ext. 10. 

Medical Missions

This group of women meet every Tuesday in the school basement from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, sewing a variety of items that are then given to the needy.  Some of the items they are responsible for are lap robes for Hines Hospital, baby blankets for a women’s shelter, bibs for St. Domitilla baptisms and the altar cloths that grace our altar.  They have been gathering for many years making items for missions and various organizations.

Ministers of Care

Ministers of Care bring the Holy Eucharits to the homebound of our parish along with prayers as an extension of the celebration of the Mass.  The Ministry is done on a weekly basis. Each Sunday the Minsters receive  Eucharist necessary to visit their asisgned homebound and receive a blessing from the mass celebrant and are dismissed to carry out their ministry.  If you are homebound and wish to have the Holy Eucharist brought to you, call the rectory office at 708-449-8430.

Recovery Group

This ministry helps those suffering from nervous illnesses through a group process of recovery and is held by Recovery Inc and is run by their guidelines.

R.C.I.A.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is for those who have not been baptized or baptized in another faith and wish tolearn more about or  join the Catholic faith.  Those baptized in the Catholic faith but have not received any of the other sacramentf of Initiation  (Holy Eucharits and Confirmation) can also join this class to complete the reception of these sacraments.  The classes begin in September and meet one evening per week until Easter.  The Sacraments are received at the Easter Vigil.  If you woudl like more ifnormation on this ministry, call the rectory office at 708-449-8430 for Deacon Joseph Siranovic.

St. Vincent de Paul Society

The St. Vincent de Paul Society helps families in need with food from thier food pantry here.  The help those within our parish boundaries once a month with bags of staple foods.  Through donations of food and financial assistance from the parish this minsitry is able to help local families in need.

Ushers (Ministers of Hospitality)

The ushers  welcome those at the entrances of the church and, when necessary, help with seating those in need.  They take up the offertory collection during Mass and bring the gifts up at the offertory.  They are available to assist in any way needed to provide an orderly setting during mass.
